How families are selected:

Habitat families are selected on the basis of: housing need, income with Habitat guidelines, and willingness to contribute 400+ hours of volunteer labor (may include family and friends) on Habitat projects.  The application process includes a background check and credit report on all applicants and co-applicants.  The Family Selection Committee reviews each application received.  Interviews are held with applicants who meet the preliminary guidelines.  Final selection is made by the Board of Directors.  Contact us with questions:

    Pre-Screen Application
    Answering the following questions will aid us in determining if you qualify for a Habitat home.
    List all monthly income sources and total below:
    Food Stamps are a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and therefore are NOT counted as income.
    Monthly gross income must be within minimum and maximum range, depending on household size.

    Three Bedroom:
    1 person        $2438/$3043 per  month       
    2 persons      $2438/$3343 per  month             
    3 persons       $2438/$3643 per  month            
    4 persons       $2438/$3943 per  month            
    5 persons       $2558/$4188 per  month            
    Four Bedroom:
    5 persons       $2745/$4255 per  month            
    6 persons       $2865/$4495 per  month            
    7 persons       $2985/$4855 per  month            
    8 persons       $3105/$5095 per  month 
    There will be credit and background checks on all applicants and co-applicants.
    If your gross monthly income is within the min. and max range for your household size and you can answer” yes” to the questions above, you may qualify as candidate for a Habitat home.

If your family, or a family you know, is in need of decent, affordable housing, please contact your local Habitat for Humanity to apply. The local Habitat affiliate will explain the application process and provide information on the cost of Habitat homes in your area.

Each Habitat affiliate selects “partner families” to become Habitat homeowners. Habitat for Humanity follows a nondiscriminatory policy of family selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing partner families. Partner families are always selected based on their level of need, ability to pay and willingness to partner.

Applicants are required to meet several qualifications to ensure success. Each Habitat affiliate has its own guidelines. In general, prospective homeowners must:
  • Be citizens or legal residents.
  • Prove steady income.
  • Have good credit.
  • Earn a gross monthly income that falls within minimum and maximum limits, depending on household size.
  • Currently not be a homeowner.

In addition, each partner family will be required to:
  • Invest sweat-equity hours in building your and other Habitat houses.
  • Make an affordable down payment.
  • Make timely mortgage payments.
  • Attend “Building Bridges” Getting Ahead education classes.
